Tomorrow is the final day of shoot. The end of the 10 weeks of non-stop work here in Dublin. I can definitely say that I’ve learned a ton, met the greatest people and have had experiences of a lifetime. I will always look back on this adventure, it’s been a crazy ride. I’ll maybe write a more heartfelt blog when I’m not so tired, but now it’s time to pack my life away into two suitcases!

I had a feeling I wouldn’t keep up with this blog, too...

I had a feeling I wouldn’t keep up with this blog, too little free time and no stable internet connection.

We’re down to one week left folks. It’s been a crazy ride. I honestly can’t believe how fast these months have past. Thinking back to my first day of shoot makes me slightly embarassed. I was just a helpless confused intern from America who never stepped foot on a film set and didn’t know how to work a walkie talkie. I’m glad to say that now I fully understand all the works that go into making a movie, and how to make the perfect cup of tea. This whole experience wouldn’t be anything though without the people I’ve been working with. I have made so many strong bonds and friendships with people that I hope always remains. I’m going to sit in my room tomorrow and just write letters to everyone, I feel like each person I’ve met along the way has helped me tremendously through this whole film. Everyone in their own way means so much to me, and it’s going to be so hard to say goodbye. Imagine working with the same people every day for eleven hours, five days a week, for three months. This whole situation kind of reminds me of high school but mashed into a shorter amount of time. Everyone seems to vanish completely from your life once the film wraps. I know I wont see many of these people again, but I hope that I do keep in touch with a handful that have really helped me grow as a person and as an assistant director trainee. :)

To further my European travels, I have a little holiday planned after next weekend. I will be going to Barcelona for a week with my family, then off to Prague, London, Scotland and finally the US.

Went and saw Kate Nash on Sunday! She put on a great live show (music wise, her stage presence was surprisingly not witty and friendly, it was kind of disappointing). I’ve always wanted to see her live though, and the stage set up was amazing. It was a fun time!

We’ve moved the film to the studios now, hello green screen world! It’s crazy, I’m going to have to take a picture to post the lime-green world I’m spending most of my time in. The cast and crew feels like a huge family to me now. This weekend we’re having a get together to wrap the locations department, I’m going to miss ‘em!

Tomorrow is Friday, WOOHOO!

Filming at Dublin Castle tomorrow right in city centre! It’s going to be totally hectic, but a change of scenery is always refreshing. This past week has been crazy. I’ve been able to see a lot of Dublin and went to Nottingham, England this weekend for a total of 28 hours to see some friends from back home. I’ve been having a blast here. I could use some more sleep, but other than that I really love it.

Went to Galway this weekend with Q’orianka! It was graaaand. I tried my first oyster (gross), had my first real Irish Guinness, stayed at a hostel and spontaneously ended up at a rugby game. It was a fun time.

I’m home at 5:45?! This is unheard of! Today we had a continuous shooting day on the set, aka we don’t stop for lunch and get out early. It’s very nice to come back and be able to have some time to actually be productive at home before nodding off to sleep. This week has gone by a lot faster than the last, I’m still figuring out exactly what I should be doing but I’m learning to adjust. This weekend will be spent checking out Dublin some more, and maybe having a housewarming party! In two weeks we’re going to be filming in Dublin town center, so that should be fun.

Today we shot at the most beautiful location, on a cliff in Wicklow. Despite the cold, the weather was wonderful and I’m getting less awkward at talking on my walkie talkie. I’m also catching onto a variety of new irish vocab words and sayings. It’s a good time. The weekend is here and I can’t be happier. Time to go to catch up on some sleep and finally go out!!

My past two days here were spent shooting at Blessington Lake. It was such a beautiful area and I got to see a good amount of the Irish countryside. I think I’m staring to get the hang of things. I feel like I’ve been working for about a week and a half now. In the past two days I’ve worked for 26 long hours. I’ve made friends on the set though, and everybody is so welcoming. Our driver is the best. His name is Dermont (I thought it was Jeremy… Language accent barrier?) and he’s full of Irish history and stories. I’ve never felt so outnumbered by non-americans before. It’s kind of refreshing, but hard to understand all the slang and speediness of their accents. Today I walked over and asked if there was any trash needed to be picked up and they all laughed at me and said “We’re not trash!! It’s called rubbish!”. There are no such thing as fries either, they’re called chips. Crisps are potato chips, the “toilet” is the bathroom, and if you want to know how someone is doing you ask “how are you gettin’ on eh?” Also, important lesson: coffee and tea is VITAL to a happy crew. Everyone needs their caffeine here.

Tomorrow I get to sleep until 6am! Thank heavens it’s not a 5am pickup again. That was brutal.

This weekend I’m going to see Lindsay in Dublin and see MGMT! This week needs to go by lot faster, thanks a mill. (Another overused term here haha)

So. Tired.

This business is definitely not easy. Worked today from 7am-7pm, and have to wake up tomorrow morning at 4:15AM. Not even joking. Everyone is super nice though, the catering is really good and it’s an awesome experience so hopefully I’ll put it together and get through without feeling like falling asleep every 10 minutes.

After hanging up 82 prints, my room is finally finished!

Today we went into downtown Dublin, I ate some fish and chips and found a TopShop. It was a fun time. Dublin reminds me of a mix between Chicago and Boston. We’re going back tomorrow to explore some more! It’s under 5 euros round trip on the bus from here, so that’ a plus.

Stole some milk from the set today because I’m too lazy to go food shopping again haha.

First day of work is completed. It was a long and busy day but I’m loving it so far! Everyone is so nice and welcoming, it’s refreshing. Monday morning I have to be up at 5:30 to travel to some huge lake two hours away for filming, should be fun :)

Greetings from Dublin!

I love it here already. Everyone is so friendly, my roommate is awesome and my apartment is in an adorable neighborhood. Tomorrow is the first work day, I have no idea what to expect. I’m super jetlagged and have nothing else interesting to say right now… Except for Aer Lingus is the best airline, I had a cliche irish old man cabbie driver pick me up from the airport and the butter here is SO GOOD.
